A guided snowshoe tour of the Red Mountain Mining District will be hosted by Ouray historian Don Paulson from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Feb. 9.
The fun, informative adventure into the historic mine sites is of moderate difficulty at an elevation more than 8,000 feet.
Participants will meet at the Ouray Community Center, 320 6th Ave. A carpool will then depart to County Road 31. Those who participate are asked to bring snowshoes, cross-country or touring gear along with appropriate clothing and accessories. Also bring your own water, lunch, sunscreen, etc. Ridgway Adventure Sports will offer a 10 percent discount on gear rentals for the tour. They can be reached at 626-8500 or at the store at 109 N. Lena Street in Ridgway.
Registration spaces are limited to 20, so it is recommended to sign up early. A $30 donation is requested to support the nonprofit tour hosts, Uncompahgre Watershed Partnership and Ouray County Historical Society
