On Aug. 21, the Herald published a news story relating to the social media vilification of Mark Redwine. From the moment I read the headline to the end of the story, I knew this would not be a news piece. This article was nothing but an opinionated diatribe against the judge, jury and executioner roles that play out in the social media realm. You would have to be living under a rock to know that is what goes on in social media these days. You can either choose to ignore it or play in to it. That is an individual’s choice to make.
What disturbed me the most is that the Herald published this piece as a “news” story. This was nothing but an editorial on the state of social media in La Plata County. There was not anything newsworthy in that article. I don’t mind if the Herald continues to publish stories like this, but they belong in the editorial section because they are nothing but biased pieces where opinion is the main content.
Please continue to cover the news and facts of the going-ons in Durango, but articles such as this have no business being in the news section of the paper.
