I am writing in support of Jessika Buell, candidate for reelection to Durango City Council. Jessika and I served together on city council between April 2021 and April 2023. She was a joy to work with and a valued colleague.
Jessika is smart, committed to her work on behalf of the city and its residents, and comes to meetings well prepared. She has an outstanding attendance record for council meetings and study sessions. Jessika is willing to meet with anyone who has a concern, suggestion, or idea and makes a point to meet with people in their neighborhoods.
Jessika and I didn't see eye to eye on every issue, and in some cases we had opposing votes for a recommended policy or action. She was, however, always willing to listen to my views, my rationale for my opinion, and to see if there was a compromise position that would work.
Her 20+ years living in Durango, her connection to the business community, and her deep engagement with the education, sports, and recreation communities provide her with a unique understanding of the joys and challenges of living and working in our town.
Perhaps the strongest endorsement I can provide is that I trust her – to do her homework, to be supportive of staff and others, to be a team player, and to work to improve the lives of folks in our community.
