It's on to the Great Eight at State for the Ignacio Bobcats! They defeated the Sangre de Christo Thunderbirds 49-20 in the 2A regional final. Next stop - CSU Pueblo!

Game time for the Bobcats is at 10:15 a.m. Thursday against Sedgwick County High School of Julesburg. The Cougars are 17-7 this year and are ranked eighth of the the Great Eight in the 2A boys. Ignacio is 23-0 and ranked first.

Also making it to the first round of state play is number-three Akron, fourth-ranked Sanford, Simla in fifth, Meeker in sixth, and Holyoke, seventh.

The winners of Thursday's games go into the Final Four on Friday, the losers head into the consolation bracket. The state championship game is at 7 p.m. Saturday.

On the girls' side, Paonia is ranked eighth in the state finalists and plays number-one Lutheran at 4 p.m. Thursday. The Paonia girls defeated the Ignacio Bobcat girls on Friday at regionals, then went on to take the regional title the next day against Ridgway.
