Regional champs!

BHS Knowledge Bowl varsity heading to state

Two firsts for Pi day? Too much fun!

Bayfield High School hosted another successful regional Knowledge Bowl meet on Saturday, March 14, known as Pi day because it represents the first three numbers of the never ending equation of Pi.

Both the Bayfield varsity and JV teams placed first. In varsity, Bayfield scored 99 points, while Ouray was second with 87 points. Dolores was third. Cortez, Montrose, Durango, Ridgway, and Pagosa were the other teams attending the meet. The Bayfield JV team scored 71 points, and second place scored 56.

"Both teams did a fantastic job!" exulted Tara Henderson, the teams' coach and an English teacher at BHS. The varsity team members are Henry Walter, Ben Young, Michael Fusco, and Tierzah Smith. The JV team consists of Mitchell McCloskey, Colton Stumpf, and Jessica Weinmeister. Also participating on the varsity B team were Caleb Sapa, Justin Nickerson, and Kaya Lines.

In honor of Pi day, pies were passed out along with trophies. The BHS teams have won six trophies in two weeks. With the first-place win at regionals, the varsity team heads to state competition April 16-17 at Colorado College in Colorado Springs.
