Katie Klein and Maggie Steward combined for as many kills for Regis as the entire Fort Lewis College volleyball team Saturday in Denver.
The Skyhawks couldn’t keep up with that level of firepower, falling 3-1 (25-16, 25-12, 20-25, 25-20).
Klein had a game-high 20 kills, while Steward powered down 11 to equal FLC’s 31.
That dynamic duo powered Regis (5-5, 2-0 RMAC) to a .244 hitting percentage, including a blistering .378 during the second set that the Rangers dominated 25-12.
For a comparison, sophomore Hannah Hargrove and freshman Matisse Monty led FLC (3-7, 0-2 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference) with six kills each.
Regis also held the Skyhawks to a .058 hitting percentage in the game with 76 digs.
FLC blocked well in the match, stopping seven Regis attempts.
Maddie LeBlanc led the Skyhawks with four, while Monty had three.
FLC’s defense stepped up the most in the Skyhawks’ third-set victory, holding Regis to a .111 hitting percentage and forcing eight attack errors.
The Skyhawks now have lost six matches in a row since winning the Oklahoma Panhandle State Aggies Challenge at the beginning of the month.
FLC will play at home for the first time this season when it hosts UC-Colorado Springs at 7 p.m. Friday in Whalen Gymnasium.
