Wow, it’s hazy outside. Must be all the fires. The junipers are turning brown and gray, and check out beetle kill on the way to Silverton. Every year seems to be the hottest on record, and the Animas is a murky mess of drought-driven mud and ash. Think climate change is not a local problem?
Ocean currents are changing and slowing, ice caps are melting and 98 percent of climate scientists are imploring us to take action. There are many locally represented organizations working on climate change; we should join them. We should demand more from our representatives in Washington and Denver, and yes, we can fix this.
Long before Election Day (Nov. 6), you will have your midterm election ballot in hand, but why wait? You can campaign for you favorite candidate, knock on doors, make phone calls, contribute some money and become active in the conversation. Make sure everyone you know is properly registered to vote, and when the time comes, make sure they VOTE.
Our kids, grandkids, future generations and every living thing on the planet are counting on us; don’t sit this out because it really is all up to us.
