Reject new history interpretation, civics effort

On Sept. 24, The New York Times reported that President Trump endorsed a “new civics effort with MAGA aligned groups.” A new civics education program led by the America First Policy Institute and supported by over 40 other groups including Moms for Liberty, Charlie Kirk's Turning Point USA, and the Heritage Foundation is an initiative claiming to be dedicated to “renewing patriotism, strengthening civic knowledge, and advancing a shared understanding of America's founding principles in schools across the nation.” In contrast, education policy experts claim it is authoritarianism and indoctrination.

Moms for Liberty has been identified as an extremist group that has threatened teachers, librarians, and school officials. The group initially fought both vaccine and mask policies during the COVID-19 pandemic. They now are endorsing book banning. They have aligned themselves with MAGA and Donald Trump.

The Heritage Foundation created Project 2025, formally titled the “Mandate for Leadership: The Conservative Promise,” which aimed to dismantle the administrative state. One goal of Project 2025 is to muzzle “woke propaganda” at every level of government. Woke propaganda is defined as including abortion, transgender rights, climate change, diversity, etc. The America First Policy Institute will accomplish Project 2025 targets regarding education.

The assassination of Charlie Kirk also ties into this controversy. Before his murder, Kirk supported the patriotic founding behind the creation of this nation. Kirk is recognized as a major supporter of both MAGA and Trump, and is likely to become a martyr.

Beware of their interpretation of history and civics. Reject them.
