Dharma center to offer meditation retreat

Registration is open for a weeklong retreat, “Awakening the Heart: An Insight Meditation Retreat,” with teachers Erin Treat and Jaya Rudegard from April 11 to 16 at Kelly Place Bed & Breakfast.

The residential retreat will be presented by the Durango Dharma Center and will focus on practices cultivating peace, freedom and the compassionate heart.

During this silent retreat, insight meditation practice, qigong practice, loving kindness meditation and periodic meetings with the teachers will be used to cultivate acceptance and wisdom.

Treat is active on the teaching council and board of directors of the Durango Dharma Center and gives talks, leads classes and teaches meditation retreats in the Southwest and nationwide. Rudegard is a former Buddhist nun, a trained psychotherapist and teaches mindfulness in the United Kingdom.

Registration is $450-$700 on a sliding scale, with scholarships available.
