Durango Dharma Center moves to new space

The Durango Dharma Center has moved to a new space at 208 East Animas Road (County Road 250), at the intersection of 32nd Street and East Animas Road in the Core Value Fitness building complex.

The first gathering in the new space will be for the sati Sunday program from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Sunday. A dedication of the center will be held during the meditation sit and talk from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Monday.

The larger space will accommodate the growing sangha community that meets regularly for meditation practice, classes, nonresidential retreats, special programs and spiritual friend gatherings. The expanded space will allow space for child care and offer ample free parking.

The center was formed in 1991 by people desiring support in their sitting practice. The center is Vipassana (insight) oriented but welcomes meditators of any tradition.

Educators protest Koch gift to Catholic University

WASHINGTON – Some Catholic educators are protesting Catholic University of America’s recent acceptance of a $1 million donation from the Charles Koch Foundation, which is affiliated with the libertarian Koch brothers.

The Washington Post reports that 50 educators signed the protest letter.

The letter says the Koch gift could suggest that what it calls the Koch brothers’ “anti-government, Tea Party ideology” has the blessing of Catholic University. The letter says the Koch brothers’ advocacy contradicts the church’s “traditional social justice teachings.”
