Methodist church to begin sermon series
The First United Methodist Church, 2917 Aspen Drive, will introduce a new sermon series today and Sunday called “The Seven Deadly Sins.”
This seven-week series will explore each of the seven sins and what can make them so insidious in people’s daily lives. While looking at the sins, sermons will look at the steps people can take to avoid them and break free of their destructive grip. Worship services are held at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m., 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. Sunday.

All Saints Academy to teach life skills
All Saints Academy is a new course offered by All Saints Anglican Church in Durango to teach life skills to people who have struggled with incarceration, addiction, homelessness or have suffered domestic violence.
The course is designed to treat the whole person, working together with classes offered by other agencies. Topics will include wise decision making, workplace balance, people skills and perseverance. Students must register.
The academy will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. the first and third Tuesday of the month in the conference room at Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave. The next class will take place Aug. 6. Although the entire course lasts nine months, students can enter at any point.

Har Shalom to host Shabbat morning service
The Congregation Har Shalom, 2537 County Road 203, will host a Shabbat morning service with Eli Herb from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. today.
The Shabbat services will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Musical instruments will enhance prayer as people move through a gentle and meditative service. A Torah service will take place from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. After a reading from the Torah, participants will engage in an open and inclusive discussion.
A potluck lunch will be held from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m.
