Methodist church to begin sermon series
The Rev. Jeff Huber at First United Methodist Church of Durango will begin a new sermon series called “Jeremiah: Faith for Tough Times” this weekend.
The series will run for four weeks and will explore the parallels in the world during the time of the prophet Jeremiah and today as it relates to social division, economic strife and personal struggles.

Lutheran youths to host Cowboy Dinner
The Christ the King Lutheran Church youth group will host a Cowboy Dinner at 6 p.m. Friday at the church, 495 Florida Road.
This is a fundraiser for the youths’ 2013 mission trip. The youths will serve a chili supper with a vegetarian option, and Joyful Noise will provide musical entertainment. Tickets are $10 per person.

National Day of Prayer to be held May 2
National Day of Prayer “Pray for America” will take place at noon May 2 at the flagpole outside the La Plata County Courthouse, 1060 East Second Ave.
A preprayer service will begin at 11 a.m. Fellowship will follow the event.

Lutheran church to host Family Sunday School
St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 2611 Junction St., will host a Family Sunday School for children and their parents at 9:15 a.m. April 28.
