Har Shalom to host programs today

Congregation Har Shalom, 2537 County Road 203, will host these programs today:

Yom Kippur Mindfulness Session will be held from 8:45 to 9:15 a.m. This is contemplative Jewish meditation designed to allow people to deepen their prayer for the day of worship.

Yom Kippur Morning Service will take place at 9:30 a.m. Immediately after morning services, there will be a study session called “Fasting and Fixing: Self Denial and the Joy of Repairing the World.”

A contemplative stroll and schmooze will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Participants will practice some Yoga-embodied Judaism.

An intergenerational service will take place from 4 to 5 p.m.

Yizkor and Tree of Life Memorial Ceremony will be held at 5 p.m. People may purchase a leaf for the congregation’s memorial tree of life.

A concluding service, a children’s glowstick processional, communal shofar blast and the “Break the Fast” potluck will take place at 6 p.m.

Unitarian Universalists to offer talk about poet

The Unitarian Universalists Fellowship of Durango’s theme for October is “Spirit of Life/Fuente de Amor.”

The fellowship will explore its Unitarian Universalist spirituality.

Judith Reynolds will present “Spirit of Life: Quotidian Mysteries and the Poetry of Dylan Thomas” at 10 a.m. Sunday at 419 San Juan Drive.

As the centenary of the Welsh poet’s birth approaches, Reynolds will talk about his life, works and legacy. Thomas observed the material world with awe and explored the varieties of human experience with warmth and delight.

All Saints Anglican Church to begin worship study

All Saints Anglican Church in Durango will begin a study of liturgical worship Sunday.

Classes will focus on what it means to worship, how Biblical worship has been celebrated throughout the ages and how it is expressed through liturgy.

The first class will be an overview of the Book of Common Prayer. The Rev. Edward W. Fowler will teach the class, which will meet at 11:45 a.m. Sunday in the Windom Room of Durango Community Recreation Center, 2700 Main Ave.
