Methodist church to begin sermon series

First United Methodist Church of Durango, 2917 Aspen Drive, will start a new sermon series this weekend titled “Timothy: My True Son in the Faith.”

The three-week series will explore the letters to Timothy as a young man written by Apostle Paul.

Contemporary worship services are offered at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and 8 and 9:30 a.m. Sunday. There also is a traditional service at 11 a.m. Sunday. Sunday school for children will take place at 9:30 a.m.

Har Shalom to hold climate-change talk

Ike Turiel will present “Last Friday – Climate Change; its indicators, causes and mitigation” from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. May 31 at Congregation Har Shalom, 2537 County Road 203.

A gathering and blessing will take place at 6 p.m. A catered dinner will take place at 6:30 p.m. A free-will offering will be accepted but is not required. The “Tikun Olam” (Healing of the World) presentation, which will include time for questions and discussion, will take place at 7:15 p.m.

Turiel has a doctorate in physics from New York University and is an energy policy analyst at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory of the University of California at Berkeley.
