Christian fiction writers to meet June 22
American Christian Fiction Writers of Colorado announces a free one-day writing workshop called “Fiction FUNdamentals” from 10:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 22 at the Montrose Regional Library, 320 South Second St., in Montrose.
Workshop attendance is free, but registration is required at http://acfwcolorado.com/western_slope_workshop.php.
Membership in ACFW is not necessary to attend. Participants will hone plots, scene-setting and conflict-development skills in fiction.
They also will learn how to connect with local writers by establishing local critique groups and learn about core issues such as identity, community and professionalism and discover how these can propel artists forward.
American Christian Fiction Writers is a national organization whose mission is to promote Christian fiction by developing the skills of its authors, educating them about the market and serving as an advocate in the traditional publishing industry.
Baptist church to host Bible School
Frontier Baptist Church will host Vacation Bible School from 6:15 to 8:45 p.m.Monday through Friday this week at 2201 Forest Ave.
The Bible school with the theme “Through the Bible on Route 66” is open to children in kindergarten to 12th grade.
Also, a hot-rod show featuring cars from the S.W. Street Rods of Durango will be held at 9:45 a.m. June 23.

Durango Lutheran church to host day camp for youths
Christ the King Lutheran Church, 495 Florida Road, will host its annual Day Camp, “Blessed to be a Blessing,” for children in prekindergarten to sixth grade from July 8 to 11.
Registration forms are available at www.ctkdurango.org/activities/day-camp or in the church office and will be accepted through July 8. The cost is $30 or $20 for preschoolers.

Pope says ‘gay lobby’ at work at Vatican
VATICAN CITY – In private remarks to the leadership of a key Latin American church group, Pope Francis lamented that a “gay lobby” was at work at the Vatican.
It was an apparent reference to allegations in the Italian media that blackmail was taking place within the Vatican against high-ranking prelates who are gay.
The Latin American and Caribbean Confederation of Religious – the regional organization for priests and nuns of religious orders – confirmed last week that its leaders had written a synthesis of Francis’ remarks after their June 6 audience. The group, known by its Spanish acronym CLAR, said it was greatly distressed that the document had been published and apologized to the pope.
In the document, Francis is quoted as saying that while there were many holy people in the Vatican, there also was a current of corruption. “The ‘gay lobby’ is mentioned, and it is true, it is there ... We need to see what we can do ...” the synthesis reads.
