Pagosa Springs churches announce changes

John Paul II Catholic Church, 353 S. Pagosa Blvd., and Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 445 Lewis St., announce the addition of Carol Schneider as new youth minister.

Schneider has experience working with middle school and high school students. She has been a teacher and an administrator of a K-12 school. She also is a jewelry and fiber artist.

She will merge her educational experiences, artistic talents and faith to the LifeTeen and Edge programs.

Registration for LifeTeen and Edge will begin Sept. 21 and can be done after Masses at both churches or by calling 731-5744.

Edge will be held from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Wednesdays in the Parish Hall. LifeTeen will be held from 5:30 to 7 p.m. after 5 p.m. Mass in the Pope John Paul II Narthex.

In addition, the Mass schedule will change:

John Paul II: 5 p.m. Saturday; 9 a.m. Sunday; and 4 p.m. Sunday.

Immaculate Heart of Mary: 11:15 a.m. Sunday.

These confession times will be added:

John Paul II: 3:45 to 4:40 p.m. Saturday; 8 to 8:50 a.m. Sunday; and 3:30 to 3:55 p.m. Sunday.

Immaculate Heart of Mary: 10:45 to 11:05 a.m. Sunday.

Religious Education classes will meet from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the Catholic Education Center on Lewis Street in Pagosa Springs.

Congregation Har Shalom announces programs

Congregation Har Shalom, 2537 County Road 203, will host these programs:

Yom Kippur with Rabbi Eliot Baskin will be held from 6:45 to 9 p.m. Friday. A Kol Nidre Mindfulness Session will take place from 6:45 to 7:15 p.m. Kol Nidre Service with sermon led by Rabbi Baskin will be held at 7:30 p.m. Child care will be provided at the synagogue during evening services.

A Yom Kippur Mindfulness Session Contemplative Jewish Meditation will take place from 8:45 to 9:15 a.m. Sept. 14. A Yom Kippur Morning Service led by Rabbi Baskin will be held at 9:30 a.m. Immediately after morning services, Baskin will lead a study session about the congregation’s adult continuing-education program, Chai Mitzvah: “Listening With Our Eyes: Yom Kippur Mindfulness/Conscious Living as a Path to Teshuva, Radical Transformation.” A healing service of hope and comfort led by Baskin will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. An intergenerational service with Baskin will take place from 4 to 5 p.m. Yizkor and Tree of Life Memorial Ceremony led by Baskin will take place at 5 p.m. Neila, a concluding service, children’s processional and Havdala led by Baskin followed by potluck “Break the Fast” will be held at 6 p.m. Participants are asked to bring a vegetarian or dairy dish to share. Child care will be provided at the synagogue during the morning services.
