What a sad day when Colorado is represented by a young woman in the U.S. House of Representatives who mocks and heckles President Biden as he delivers the State of the Union speech.
Surely, she did not see this modeled in her home or by her teachers during her years of education. Whether Democrat or Republican, liberal or conservative, such activity is to be condemned. Colorado has been my home for over 50 years, and I found her behavior reprehensible. Perhaps I am naïve or old fashioned. I thought I lived in a state that was home to fair-minded, courteous citizens.
Expressing one’s personal feelings in privacy is a right guaranteed by our democracy. Listening to ideas expressed by a leader who represents a different set of values is critical. Only then can we explore our beliefs which may be challenged. We in Colorado who hold to democratic ideals must hang our heads in shame when someone so rude and ignorant makes a spectacle of themselves.
