Rep. Hurd needs his eyes checked

Congressman Hurd’s New Year’s Resolution (Herald, Jan. 4) reminds one of the 1936 line out of the Marx Brothers’ “Duck Soup” about believing what our eyes see versus what we are told they see. In short, our current congressman asks us to believe him and “not (our) lying eyes.”

While Hurd complains about “loud” politics, he meekly follows the loudest mouth in the room. He is so proud of “helping” to introduce (meaning to blindly support) the HOPE Act, but it does next to nothing to offset the massive Medicaid cuts he supported that will start devastating rural health care this year. He sat on his hands in the face of the expiring Obamacare subsidies, yet espouses mysterious guardrails against health care premium increases. What mumbo jumbo!

He wants to work on water security, but the yeller-in-chief has already vindictively vetoed Colorado water security legislation. Congressman Hurd tells us noise is the problem, but our eyes see the real problem: congressional lemmings like Mr. Hurd who enable the destruction of rural health care, do nothing to prevent incoming massive health insurance premium increases, do nothing to stop the large taxes on small business caused by erratic tariffs and do nothing to stand in the way of a loud-mouthed, reckless bully.

We all can plainly see it. Mr. Hurd needs better glasses.
