Reporting fell short on Loss Day coverage

I am writing in response to the reporting (

I do want to honor the natural human need during grief for the “why’s?” and “what if’s?” That is where we begin when we are asked to face death, and especially death by suicide. I feel a strong need to share my perspective on the event.

I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with a team of community members volunteering their time to show up for these grieving families and their community.

The few minutes that were spent discussing the open-ended conversation about “why suicide?” was, in fact, just a few minutes of a much deeper experience.

I want your readers to know the immense courage that was in the room that day! People demonstrating compassion, open and kind listening and a sense of acceptance for each other. I had the honor to be a part of the extraordinary force that came through extraordinary people holding a space for each other.

We all need connection and community when we are in grief. The group of attendees created a sense of support and compassionate love.

Thanks to the people who were able to attend the event, and special thanks to Amie Bryant and Janna Schaefer.
