Republicans are running scared, of the public

Thank you for your article describing 250 Colorado citizens who visited the Dolores Public Library (Herald, Feb. 26) to meet with Rep. Jeff Hurd’s staff only to have that staff member not appear.

Then on Feb. 28 (Herald, Feb. 28), your story documented that Naomi Dobbs, Southwest Region director for Hurd, did attend the meeting but left rather than listen to and talk to constituents.

I am amazed.

Is this the same Republican Party terrified of immigrants and who might be in the next bathroom stall? Is this the Republican Party that spent a quarter of a billion dollars on ads about the dangers posed by LGBTQ people?

Where are those rough and ready rock-ribbed Republicans ready to make America great again? And how is that supposed to happen when elected officials and their staff refuse to meet with voters or to answer inquiries from the press?

Because I cannot speak with Ms. Dobbs personally, here’s a little message from a voter: We demand accountability. And if you won’t listen to us at public meetings, you’ll definitely listen at the ballot box.
