Owners of taxable personal property may challenge the La Plata County assessor’s valuation of their personal property from Tuesday to June 30.
The value determined by the assessor is based on information submitted on Personal Property Declaration Schedule. Those who failed to file a declaration schedule had property values determined using the “best information available.”
Taxpayers who disagree with personal property valuations may object by mail or in person by June 30. Once an objection has been filed, the assessor will review the account and mail a Notice of Determination by July 10. A taxpayer’s exclusive remedy for a "best information available“ valuation is the protest procedure.
Those who disagree with the assessor's decision must file an appeal with the county board of equalization by July 2.
