With bears actively foraging for food in preparation for hibernation and bear activity picking up, residents are reminded that local bear and trash laws work only when incidents are reported.

City of Durango residents can call City Code at 375-4930 to report incidents of trash accessed by bears. La Plata County residents should call Animal Protection through Central Dispatch at 385-2900.
