It is exceedingly clear there is a crisis of leadership affecting the Town Board here in Bayfield. That a large number of the community came together and signed a letter asking for a board member to resign is indicative of the deep problems with the process the current board has engaged in to govern. And while that letter could have been better written to more accurately reflect the concerns of the community, the thrust of the letter was not wrong in asking for her resignation.
But then for that board member to confront a resident at her own home over authorship of the letter is beyond the pale. Alexis Hartz needs to cede her seat on the Town Board and resign immediately. It is clear she is a liability risk to the town and cannot remain as a trustee.
The town cannot have board members who do not understand fiduciary responsibility. The place for town business is during Town Board meetings and for any board member to assume that is OK to engage a member of the public in a confrontational manner outside of that venue has breached their fiduciary responsibility to act in a professional manner.
Should Trustee Harz refuse to resign, then she must be recalled. And if we are going down that path, then the recall should extend so as to question the membership on the board of both Mayor Au and Trustee Nyberg as well as Trustee Hartz. All have breached their fiduciary responsibilities!
