Reward offered for road sign vandalism near Edgemont Ranch

Driver caused more than $2,000 in damage

A $500 reward is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person who caused more than $2,000 in damages to street signs at the Edgemont Ranch Metro District subdivision.

According to the La Plata County Sheriff’s Office, a truck drove through the subdivision, located in the 6000 block of County Road 240 (Florida Road), between midnight and 12:30 a.m. Sunday morning, driving off the road and running over at least 13 signs.

Street signs were damaged on Copper Bell, Eagle Pass and Silver Queen streets, as well as Highland Avenue, located on the other side of County Road 240.

According to the news release, several residents in the area heard the incident, which is being treated as a criminal mischief felony because of the amount of damage.

The Sheriff’s Office suspects the person was driving a large-sized truck with a heavy, cleated tire tread.

“It may have a push bar or other mount on the front of the vehicle that allowed it to push over signs mounted on poles in concrete,” the release said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Deputy Richard Paige at 382-5023.

If callers receive no immediate answer, they can call Durango-La Plata Dispatch Center at 385-2900 and ask for the on-shift La Plata County Sheriff’s Office supervisor.
