Construction of bridge foundations of the Animas River Trail pedestrian bridge will begin on the west side of the Animas River next week.
Construction activity will be evident on both sides of the riverbank, as permitted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. Machinery will be located in the river.
The project will provide long-term user safety with a grade-separated trail crossing (underpass) of East 32nd Street and new pedestrian bridge over the Animas River. Project work will take place from September to June 2022.
The abutment and riverbank work is separate from the portion of the project involving removal of a large cottonwood tree on the east side of the river. Work at the northeast corner of the project is on hold while the city considers feedback from community members about the tree removal.
