Another shutout makes a perfect 10.
Caitlyn Espinosa, the Fort Lewis College Skyhawks’ goalkeeper, earned a pair of wins last weekend, one by shutout – her 10th of the season – to earn Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors.
The sophomore from Rio Rancho, N.M., helped FLC to a 2-1 victory over previously undefeated Metro State on Friday at home, then stopped all four shots she faced in a 2-0 victory Sunday at UC-Colorado Springs.
Espinosa improved to 12-3-0 this season. Her double-digit shutouts lead the conference, and she ranks second in goals-against average (.452) and saves (52).
FLC, with two games left on its regular-season schedule, improved to 13-3 and 9-3 in the RMAC.
Colorado Mines (15-0-1, 12-0 RMAC) clinched the RMAC regular-season title.
Metro State (11-2-3, 9-2-1 RMAC) is second and FLC third; both have clinched their spots in the RMAC Tournament.
FLC will play at Colorado Mesa at 4 p.m. Friday in Grand Junction, then will finish its regular season against Colorado Mines at 1 p.m. Sunday at Dirks Field.
