Road Apple Rally mountain bike race goes virtual on 40th anniversary

Road Apple Rally’s 40th anniversary race will be held virtually.

While normally held the first Saturday in October, participants in this year’s race will need to use an app such as Strava or the MTB Project to track and record their times while riding the course within the two-week period of Oct. 3 through 17.

The Road Apple Rally course is a single-track race with both a 30-mile loop and a 15-mile loop located in the Glade Run Recreation Area. Pro, Expert, Cat 1 and Cat 2 riders do the 30-mile loop with Cat 3, Athena and Clydesdale riders doing the 15-mile track.

Register online by noon Oct. 17, or download the printable registration form online at www.RoadAppleRally.com and have it postmarked by Oct. 2. Participants must register before recording themselves riding the course.

Registration is $25 and includes a 40th-anniversary T-shirt. Using either Strava or the MTB Project app, racers will record themselves riding the actual Road Apple Rally track sometime between Oct. 3 and 17. Take a screenshot of the results and submit them by Oct. 18.

All participants will be riding at their own risk. They should know the route, have plenty of water, electrolytes and a plan in case they need assistance on the course.
