Road work scheduled Wednesday and Thursday on Farmington Hill

Drivers can expect delays, alternating traffic through work zone

Drivers can expect delays Wednesday and Thursday on a five-mile stretch of U.S. Highway 550, from Farmington Hill south to County Road 302.

The two-day chip-and-seal project will cause delays from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. both days.

Wednesday’s work will take place on Farmington Hill, from the bottom to the top near County Road 220. Thursday’s work will include a four-mile stretch of road from County Road 220 to County Road 302.

The traffic signal at the base of Farmington Hill will not be operational Wednesday. Instead, flaggers will control traffic movements at the intersections. Motorists will encounter one lane, alternating traffic guided by a pilot car through the work zone with delays up to 15 minutes.

“Travelers may want to consider an alternate route,” CDOT said in the release.

The project will help improve and prolong the life of the road, according to a news release issued by the Colorado Department of Transportation.

Travelers are asked to slow down; high speeds can cause loose stones to scatter and damage vehicle paint and windshields.

Drivers also should put some distance between them and the car in front of them to help reduce damage caused by loose stones.
