When Erika Roberts traveled to Fort Worth, Texas, earlier this month, she knew she would be competing with the best in the world in her field in reining and cutting-horse work.
What she didn’t know was she would be coming home with the championship.
On Wednesday, she rode the mare Reward Me Please, also known as “Dolly,” in a class with 10 riders in the Limited Open Bridle Championship of the National Reined Cow Horse Association. Roberts qualified to compete in the “Worlds” by winning other events.
Dolly belongs to Durangoans Jack and Beverly Vaughn. Roberts trains and shows registered quarter horses for the couple at their Triangle Bar V Ranch.
This is her second World Championship – she won her division in the Morgan Horse World Championship Walk/Trot competition when she was 7.
She is the daughter of Jan and the late Gene Roberts, longtime owners of Wilderness Trails Ranch.
