She’s more than a top YA cartoonist – she’s attained single-name recognition as a rock-star author. So it’s big news that Raina – as in Telgemeier – will deliver two books next year.
The best-selling creator of “Smile” and “Sisters” will deliver a third graphic memoir, titled “Guts,” next September, Scholastic announced. The new title will have a first printing of 1 million copies.
And next April, she will also come out with a book to encourage the next generation of creators. “Share Your Smile: Raina’s Guide to Telling Your Own Story,” will be an interactive how-to guide with a first printing of a half-million copies.
Both books will be published by the Scholastic imprint Graphix.
“Guts” will center on a school-age Raina who is facing her fears, even as both she and her mother have “tummy trouble.”
“Readers respond to honest, personal storytelling,” Telgemeier said in a statement. “‘Guts’ may be my most personal story yet, and I had to summon a lot of courage to create it.”
Telgemeier, who is also the author of “Drama,” has more than 15 million books in print, according to Scholastic.
