A group of children in second through eighth grade built their own rockets Friday and launched them Saturday morning at Florida Mesa Elementary School as part of Rocket Science Camp. Scot Davis, center, organized the venture and said children learned about rocketry principles such as lift, drag, thrust and newtons. Davis fires off one of his own black-powder rockets, which reached a height of 654 feet, traveling 169 miles per hour.
