Rockies hosted two Bayfield players for futures game

Zane Phelps and Kelton McCoy got a chance to round the bases not at their home field in Bayfield, but at Coors Field for The Colorado High School Futures Game.

The Colorado Rockies gave Kelton McCoy and Zane Phelps a rare opportunity.

Both Bayfield High School junior baseball players were selected for The Colorado High School Futures Game played May 28 at Coors Field.

The game matched up a team of seniors against underclassmen in an all-star game to showcase the state’s talent.

“I live for those kind of things, playing in the big stadium against the best competition in Colorado,” said McCoy, son of Derek and Loresa McCoy.

McCoy and Phelps both played on the underclassmen team, which lost 10-9 on a walk-off hit by Rocky Mountain senior Chad Bell.

McCoy caught the last three innings and went 1-for-2 at the plate.

“It was a blast regardless of how I did,” McCoy said.
