A trio of Skyhawks found themselves worthy of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference honors when the all-league teams were announced Monday.
Chelsea Rodriguez landed on the first team, Kaylynn Harmon on the second and Mariah Stuart on the third for the Fort Lewis College softball team.
Preseason selections turned out to be proper prognostications for Player and Pitcher of the Year. Adams States Katelyn Lovato hit .489 (11th nationally) and stole 13 bases to earn top player honors, while Kelly Unkrich of Colorado Mines went 22-1 with a 0.82 earned-run average and 155 strikeouts to earn top pitcher accolades.
UC-Colorado Springs freshman Payton Kornfeind hit .520 to lead the league and place fourth nationally en route to RMAC Freshman of the Year honors, and coach Kristie Hawkins of league champion Colorado Mines was named top coach.
Rodriguez, a junior, started all 41 games mostly at third base and hit .376 through the regular season with a team-best 42 runs scored, 31 RBIs and a team-leading eight home runs. She also led the Skyhawks with a .537 on-base percentage, a .679 slugging percentage and 37 walks as FLC finished 20-24.
Rodriguez also was the RMACs Academic Player of the Year.
Harmon appeared in 37 games, mostly at second base, and hit .439 in the regular season to lead the team and place fourth in the conference. The sophomore slugged three home runs, drove in a team-leading 40 runs, scored 23 times, led FLC with 50 total hits and accrued an on-base percentage of .511.
Stuart, a junior-college transfer and first baseman from Omak, Wash., hit .376 in the regular season for the Skyhawks while playing in 36 games. She drove in 14 runs, scored 17 times, slugged .516 and accrued an on-base percentage of .468. Stuart also earned an RMAC Player of the Week accolade and had a .989 fielding percentage.
FLCs season came to a close with a loss in the RMAC Tournament last weekend. The Skyhawks will lose pitcher Kassie Haubert and outfielder Erica Conley to graduation.
