Rollover incident results in arrest

Teenager escapes crash but not police

Durango Police arrested a man who was found after fleeing the scene of an accident early Saturday morning.

Aiden Lunde, 19, was apprehended when police located him on foot near the intersection of Florida Road and North College Drive at about 1 a.m. Saturday morning, after he rolled his Subaru sedan into a vacant lot just north of Richard Drive.

Cpl. Nick Stasi with the Durango Police Department said Lunde was believed to have been trapped in the vehicle but escaped and fled on foot before officers arrived.

At the northern end of North College Drive there is a sharp bend, just before it reaches Florida Road.

“The call initially came in that he was trapped,” Stasi said. “He was coming down North College and failed to negotiate the curve by Richard, rolled over and the car landed back on its wheels, and he fled and was arrested a short time later.”

Stasi said Lunde was taken into custody for driving under the influence.
