Rollover off U.S. Highway 550 results in minor injuries

3 adults, 1 child in car in Sunday morning accident
Four occupants avoided serious injury Sunday after their car rolled over off U.S. Highway 550 near the Colorado-New Mexico border.

Four occupants, including a small child, avoided serious injury Sunday morning after their car rolled over 1½ times off U.S. Highway 550 near the Colorado-New Mexico border.

Around 10:30 a.m., a 2004 Kia Rio with three adults and one child inside went off the highway near mile marker 3, rolling over one and a half times before resting upside down, Colorado State Patrol Cpl. Chris Balenti said.

Luckily, the occupants suffered only minor injuries, and only one of the adults required an emergency transfer as a precautionary measure, Balenti said.

U.S. Highway 550 was not shut down because of the incident, but emergency personnel did alternate north- and south-bound lanes while response was active.

Balenti said the occupants were from Farmington and headed north toward Durango when the accident occurred.

Balenti said the cause of the accident has not yet been determined, but no drugs or alcohol were detected or suspected.
