Rosa Sabido, who has been in sanctuary at the Mancos Methodist Church for 500 days, will host a Dia de los Muertos celebration at the church at 3 p.m. Saturday.
The Day of the Dead holiday is a celebration honoring the dead and their next chapter of their existence, Joanie Trussel said in a news release.
Participants may bring an item, such as a photograph or a food item that honors a loved one who has died, for placement on an altar that is meant to welcome back spirits to the realm of the living.
“Also, we invite people to bring a homemade headstone to place on the church grounds in a temporary ‘cemetery’ for this event,” Trussel said.
Dia de los Muertos costumes are encouraged, and face painting will be available. A potluck meal and candlelight vigil on the grounds of the church also are planned.
