The Rotary Club of Durango will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day by welcoming professor Michael Martin of Fort Lewis College to its dinner meeting at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Strater Hotel, 699 Main Ave.
Martin is an expert on Irish early medieval history and will discuss the history versus the legends/myths about St. Patrick; Ireland’s first female saint, Brigid; how early Church development in Ireland differed from in England and on the European continent; and how Irish biblical commentaries became a major influencer in Europe as Irish monks traveled to and founded many influential monasteries there.
