Rotary thanks Heritage Day sponsors, volunteers

Pine River Centennial Rotary Club would like to thank all those who helped with the success of our Bayfield Heritage Day fundraisers - Ewe Pick 'Em and our beer garden in the park.

Special thanks to F&M Construction which donated the $500 prize for Ewe Pick 'Em, so that all the event proceeds could go to our selected beneficiary, the BEEP preschool to assist families that can't afford the tuition. Our club recently presented a $1,000 check to BEEP. That also included Heritage Day beer garden proceeds.

Proceeds from our July 4 beer garden, $1,800, have been presented to the Bayfield Family Center for the kids' food backpack program and the Pine River Shares monthly community potlucks. Thanks for the wonderful work they do to help struggling local families.

Thanks to the Hillyers at Southwest Ag for providing our beer garden tent, Southern Ute Head Start for loaning the chairs and tables, the Ignacio FFA kids who made short work of loading and unloading those tables and chairs, Ska Brewing and A&L Coors for discounted prices on the beer, and our beer guru and soon-departing member Ottie Otterstein who is moving to Arizona.

Thanks also to Bayfield Lions Club members who have taken charge of the Heritage Day parade the last two years, Four Corners Horse, Mule, and Carriage Association members and everyone who turned out for the parade, J. Paul Brown and family for providing the sheep, Keith Fassbender for the dog trials, Pine River Heritage Society members and other interested individuals who helped plan and organize Heritage Day; and big thanks to Eileen Wasserbach for chairing the organizing committee this year.

Still more thanks to Red Willow Production Company for their Heritage Day sponsorship, and Bayfield Parks and Recreation staff for their assistance and support.

Becky J. Smith

Pine River Rotary Club president
