The Ignacio High School baseball team played a doubleheader on Tuesday at San Juan league foe Nucla. The Bobcats rallied to win the first game, 19-11, but Nucla took the second game 9-3 to force a split.

In Game 1, Ignacio trailed the Mustangs 7-3 after four innings and 8-7 heading into the fifth. The Bobcats, however, erupted for seven runs in the fifth inning and added another five in the seventh to get the win.

Devante Montoya and Phillip Quintana both hit two home runs for IHS.

Montoya drove in six runs and scored three more while every Bobcat in the starting lineup either scored or had an RBI.

Quintana had four RBIs and scored three runs while Marcus Maez and Eppie Quintana also scored three runs in the win.

The Bobcats also committed six errors in the game and only two of Nucla’s runs were earned, but Eppie Quintana was still able to get the win on the mound.

In the second game Ignacio committed another seven errors and was unable to overcome them. Only four of Nucla’s nine runs were earned, but the Mustangs led 3-0 after one inning and 7-0 after three.

After the doubleheader, Ignacio was 10-7 overall and 4-3 in the 2A/1A San Juan league, an identical record as Dove Creek. The Bobcats, however, beat Dove Creek in two of their three games this season. Nucla was 8-9, 1-5.

Ignacio will next play a doubleheader at Center (2-11) on Saturday.

The Bayfield High School girls’ soccer team took on Ridgway in a nonleague match on Tuesday, but fell 7-2 to the Demons.

BHS will then get a shot at redemption on Friday. The Wolverines will host a rematch with Ridgway at 4 p.m.

The DHS girls’ soccer team (8-3 overall) will also conclude its regular season with a pair of home games. DHS will host Central Grand Junction at 5 p.m. on Friday and then take on Fruita Monument at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
