The Durango High School baseball team visited the Grand Junction High School for games on Friday and Saturday, but came up short in both. DHS fell 9-5 on Friday and then 11-3 on Saturday to the Tigers.
DHS actually jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first game, but the Tigers scored eight runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings to rally for the win.
On Saturday, GJHS led 8-0 after four innings and held off the Demons late. DHS (8-8 overall, 1-3 4A/5A Southwestern) was also scheduled to play Pagosa Springs on Tuesday.
The DHS girls’ soccer team, ranked No. 9 in Class 4A, hosted Legend on Monday, but lost a close contest 2-1. Legend took a 2-0 at halftime. Amelia Scott assisted Sydney Ryan in the second half, but DHS was unable to find the equalizer. Durango (7-3, 5-1 4A/5A Southwestern) was also scheduled to play Telluride on Tuesday.
Ignacio High’s baseball team hosted Trinidad for a doubleheader and ended up splitting it with the Miners. Trinidad rallied from a 5-1 deficit to win the first game 7-6, but Ignacio came back to win the second game, 14-4. Devante Montoya and Stoney Whitethunder both had three RBIs in the win. Eppie Quintana, meanwhile, had two runs and two RBIs in the loss.
Ignacio is now 7-6 overall and 3-1 in the 2A/1A San Juan.
On the pitch, the Ignacio girls’ soccer team traveled to Ridgway on Friday, but lost 10-0 to slip to 0-9 overall. Ignacio was also scheduled to play Alamosa on Tuesday.
