After losing to Glenwood Springs 2-0 on Saturday, the Durango High School boys soccer team came back strong on Tuesday and shut out Farmington 8-0 at DHS.
Charles “Chuck” Gleason slipped a shot inside the left post eight minutes into the contest to get the momentum rolling for DHS. Just three minutes later, Davis Cameron fired a hard shot that deflected off a Scorpion, took a weird hop and went into the goal. DHS took a 5-0 lead into halftime and added three goals after the break.
DHS (2-1 overall) will next play Pueblo West (0-4) on Friday and Mead (2-0) on Saturday.
Farmington slipped to 2-2 overall with the loss and will next play at Aztec (1-2) on Tuesday.
Fort Lewis College teams will get their seasons underway this week with soccer, football, volleyball and its cycling team all competing.
The FLC men’s soccer team (4-11-2 overall in 2022) was first team scheduled to begin Thursday against Lubbock Christian. The team will also host Eastern New Mexico at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
The FLC football team (0-10 in 2022) will play its opener Saturday in Missouri against William Jewell College. With over 20 freshman playing on both sides of the ball in head coach Johnny Cox’s first year at the helm last year, FLC took some lumps, but gained a lot of valuable experience.
The FLC women’s soccer team (6-11-2 in 2022) will start on the road, playing Eastern New Mexico on Saturday and Adams State on Monday.
FLC volleyball (10-15 in 2022) will begin its season at the Patriot Classic in Texas. The Skyhawks will play Dallas Baptist, St. Edwards, University of Texas Tyler and Southern Nazarene University.
The FLC mountain bike team, meanwhile, will face its biggest competition to start is season when it races at Colorado Mesa’s race on Saturday.
