The Durango Demons’ lineup wrapped up the Delta baseball tournament on a strong note.
Despite dropping Friday’s tournament opener 15-5 against Liberty, Durango responded with a 6-2 victory over Battle Mountain later that day, along with a 11-11 tie in its Saturday rematch against Liberty.
Durango had a combined 25 hits over those three games, including 12 on Saturday.
The Demons improved to 4-1-1 this season.
Down 11-5 in the bottom of the seventh inning in Saturday’s game, the Demons scored six runs to force the tie.
The Demons will resume their long road trip 3 p.m. March 26 at Bayfield, then will travel to Delta at 11 a.m. March 30.
The Skyhawks trailed 5-2 after the opening period and didn’t recover, falling 16-7 against Colorado Mesa Friday night at Durango High School.
Fort Lewis attacker Haley Dostie scored four goals. Colorado Mesa’s Justine Anderson and Elizabeth Renken combined for seven goals and three of the Mavericks’ four team assists. Twelve of Colorado Mesa’s goals were unassisted.
The Skyhawks (0-2, 0-1) will host Westminster at 2 p.m. Sunday. Fort Lewis will then embark on a five-game road trip.
Fort Lewis’ three-game series against Chadron State was postponed due to inclement weather affecting Aspen Field.
The triple-header will start at 11 a.m. Monday.
Sydney Rey knocked in the deciding goal, as the Wolverines topped Montezuma-Cortez 1-0 in Tuesday’s season opener for both squads.
Bayfield will play at 4 p.m. March 26 at Ignacio.
The Bobcats lost 10-0 in Tuesday’s season opener at Alamosa.
