DHS first played Kirtland Central on Thursday to open its season and the Demons’. DHS scored one run in each of the first three innings, then exploded for another 10 runs in the last three innings to start with a 13-0 win.

Michael Benner had three hits, including a double, while scoring four runs for DHS. Gavin Hamlin had a four-hit game, scored three runs and drove in two RBIs.

Brady Hansen had three hits, three RBIs and scored three runs. Tanner Coddington scored twice and drove in two more. Ian Szura scored twice, Tagert Bardin had a double and scored a run while Jack Englund drove in two runs on three base hits.

On the mound, Coddington struck out 12 while only walking three in five innings to earn the win. Chance Costa threw two innings for DHS, striking out four and walking one.

On Friday, the Demons took on Montezuma-Cortez, but fell 7-3 to the Panthers. Szura, Coddington and Hamlin scored for DHS while Liam Southerland and Hansen recorded the RBIs. A trio of errors, however, didn’t help DHS.
