The Ignacio High School baseball team sent its seniors off with a pair of wins in their final home games on Saturday. The Bobcats welcomed Sargent to town and dominated the Farmers in a pair of mercy-rule victories, 10-0 and 10-0.

IHS improved to 9-6 overall with the wins.

In the first game of the doubleheader, Ignacio scored five runs in the first inning and four more in the second to blow the game open right away.

Eppie Quintana scored three runs for the Bobcats. Rylan Maez scored twice and also drove in a pair. Ambrose Valdez had two RBIs and scored once while Phillip Quintana scored twice and drove in one.

Eppie Quintana threw all five innings to get the win for IHS, striking out 10 and walking none while scattering four base hits.

In the second game of the doubleheader, Phillip Quintana took the mound and was nearly perfect. Phillip walked one batter and only gave up one hit while striking out eight in five innings to get the win.

Marcus Maez scored three runs to help lead the Bobcats while Zane Olguin scored one and drove in three. Eppie Quintana had three base hits, scored twice and drove in one run. Stormy White Thunder also drove in two runs and scored one in the win.

The Bobcats were also scheduled to play a 2A/1A San Juan League doubleheader at Nucla on Tuesday as this paper was going to press. Ignacio entered the contests leading the league with a 3-1 mark, followed by Dove Creek (10-7, 4-2) and Nucla (7-8, 0-4).

Bayfield baseball rolls on

The Bayfield High School baseball team picked up its sixth straight win on Saturday, improving to 13-3 overall with an 8-3 win over the Bloomfield Bobcats.

Noah Chamblee had two base hits, drove in two runs and scored three times to lead Bayfield’s offense. Micah Cornelia and Tavian Box both had two RBIs while Lance Mazur and Caden Wood scored two runs apiece. Nic Twedt also scored once while Wood and Jackson Queen also had an RBI.

Durango boys lacrosse falls to Telluride

The Durango High School boys’ lacrosse team closed the gap with Telluride a bit on Monday on its home field. After losing 18-2 last week at Telluride, DHS scored more goals and prevented the Miners from scoring as many in the rematch, but the Demons were unable to get the win. Telluride won 11-5.

With the loss, Durango slipped to 0-11 overall and 0-8 in the 4A Mountain league. Telluride improved to 8-3, 6-1.

With two games remaining, Durango will have its best chance to pick up a win on Wednesday when the Demons visit Montrose (1-7, 1-6). The Red Hawks won a tight game on April 8 at DHS, 11-8, for its only win so far.

The Demons will then conclude their season at 9 a.m. on Saturday at home versus Grand Junction (5-7, 5-2).

Ignacio soccer drops two

The Ignacio High School girls’ soccer team also took on Telluride on Saturday in a pair of games. The Miners, however, scored 11-1 and 10-0 victories over the Bobcats to keep Ignacio out of the win column. IHS slipped to 0-13 overall with the losses.

Next, Ignacio will host Bayfield (6-4) at 4 p.m. on Thursday.

Bayfield was also scheduled to play at Ridgway (4-5-1) on Tuesday.
