The Rumble in the Jungle bared its teeth Friday in Aztec.
The Bayfield High School girls basketball team lost to Aztec’s junior varsity 50-46 in the consolation bracket.
Jaida Ross picked up a double-double, leading the team with 14 points and 16 rebounds. Haley Clarke joined her in double figures with 10 points, while Jessie Roukema added seven points and 13 rebounds.
“Our defense struggled a lot (Friday night),” BHS head coach Bri Simbeck said. “The girls were tired from a tough game (Thursday) night against Artesia.”
BHS (1-4) lost its fourth consecutive game after a win to start the season.
“Part of it is we’re playing good competition,” Simbeck said. “I’ll take those losses early in the season, hoping we learn from them and improve.”
The Wolverines will play tournament host Aztec at 1 p.m. Saturday.
