Running out of patience on Denver TV

A genuine feeling of uneasiness followed the reading of Jessica Pace’s piece (Herald, July 24) on Denver television.

First, the details of the FCC’s new “market modification” plan are not exposed. Also, it seems to me that a simple “Do you want Denver TV?” question on the November ballot might be in order and illuminating for the FCC.

Nowhere is a vote suggested.

Another question or two: Why has it taken the County Commission five months to start the process, and why will it take months more to complete the petition? I guess patience is still a virtue, but it has been many years getting to this point.

Now, another year?

The lack of attention by our elected officials, with the exception of Rep. Ellen Roberts, has been truly enlightening and frightening. They (U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton, U.S. Sen. Michael Bennet and others) have refined the art of lip service. Years go by without any action.

Why are these elected officials tiptoeing around the unelected bureaucrats at the FCC?

Once again, the citizens of La Plata County will be unable to glean any, hopefully, unbiased information regarding the political process at the state level.

Unfortunately for us, the Herald is so blatantly liberal in its editorial approach, just about everything in the paper, editorials, opinion pieces and the simply disgusting Lukovich “cartoons” makes it difficult for the average reader to take seriously.

We desperately need other sources of information, and, to some extent, Denver TV will provide it.

This is serious business and should not be left in the hands of some bureaucratic clerk at the FCC to determine if we, La Plata County, qualify for a change.

That change should be demanded by our elected officials.

After all, many years ago, the Nielsen company contracted by the FCC made a mistake assigning La Plata County to the Albuquerque DMA, then refused to fix it.

So, U.S. Sen. Cory Gardner and Tipton, fix it!

P.S.: The Denver TV stations will not oppose the transfer. It will increase their audience size and result in increased advertising rates and revenue for the stations. Money still talks.
