Several shelves remained bare Sunday at Durango grocery stories as runs continued on toilet paper, hand sanitizer and dry goods.

Lisa Williams, customer service supervisor with Albertsons in Durango, said a cargo truck arrived at the store at 9 p.m. Saturday and by 7 a.m. Sunday the store was already out of toilet paper. The store also ran out of paper towels and hand sanitizer.

“We actually ran out of hand sanitizer before toilet paper,” said Shaun Elmore, front-end manager at Albertsons on Sunday.

Dry goods, such as rice, beans, and pasta are also in short supply.

Elmore said limits had been established of one package of toilet paper, three packages of water and five 1-gallon jugs of water in an effort to make those items more widely available for more customers.

City Market has reduced its hours to operate only from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. to provide more time for restocking, according to a tweet from San Juan Basin Public Health.

Efforts to reach City Market’s corporate headquarters were unsuccessful on Sunday.

“Today is actually slower than yesterday,” Elmore said on Sunday. “We’ll get one stock truck in, and some items will be gone in a few hours.”
