A wolf is stalking the Animas Valley! And our county officials are welcoming it in! This wolf, dressed in sheep’s clothing provided by our county Planning Department, is bullying its way closer to settling next to the Animas River, where it can potentially reek all kinds of havoc.
The wolf, also known as Roberts Resorts “RV Park” (it’s not just an RV Park!), is moving into our area based on a Sketch Plan our county planning commissioners approved in a 3 – 2 vote. Our Planning Department titled this an RV Park so it faces the lesser scrutiny a Minor Land Use Permit entails.
This is blatantly a tiny home village (three or more tiny homes on one lot – the developer wants 49 initially and more later), which will also have RV sites. Our county codes require a tiny home village to use a Major Land Use Permit, which means more scrutiny.
In a recent meeting with citizens, Chuck Stevens, county manager, and Kevin Hall, community development director, could not or would not say why they let this Sketch Plan go through under the wrong designation. They would only say that the determination had been made and there is no way we, the citizens, can change that decision.
Nevermind our county codes, it is their way or nothing!
