RV park’s ‘negative impacts outweigh benefits’

There are many reasons to oppose the Roberts Village Camp Durango proposal.

The density of the Roberts Resorts proposal is incompatible with the area. It increases concern for ecosystems in the Animas Valley, including an increased potential for floodplain and river corridor damage, wildlife habitat and migration disruption, and significantly decreased protection of riparian areas.

It also produces concern for public safety, including inadequate law enforcement, inadequate fire prevention and ambulance coverage, etc. Traffic in the Animas Valley is already dangerous for cyclists and pedestrians. Increased density will mean increased safety concerns.

The key question: Why change the Animas Valley for those few who benefit from it financially? Predatory development benefits investors, not Durango and its residents. Further, Animas Valley Zoning (1993) was enacted to help preserve the valley, but it is being misinterpreted to benefit the current proposal. In short, the negative impacts far outweigh any purported benefits.

There are many reasons to oppose the Roberts Village Camp Durango proposal.
