S.W. Colorado’s roads may be icy this morning

Icy roads coupled with blowing snow caused traffic accidents like this truck that tipped onto its side after sliding along southbound U.S. Highway 550 at the Durango city limits in 2013. No serious injuries were reported. Drivers may be facing similar icy roads Wednesday morning.

Drivers should be prepared for icy roads on their morning drives today.

“Icy roads are likely for (this) morning’s commute,” said Tom McNamara with the La Plata County Office of Emergency Management. “Plan to drive slowly, give extra space and make it safe.”

The Grand Junction office of the National Weather Service is forecasting a 40 percent chance of a wintry mix of snow and freezing rain for Tuesday night, a 50 percent chance of rain today, a 40 percent chance of rain and snow tonightand some rain and snow possible on Thursday.

The weather is expected to clear by Thursday night, with a slight chance for more precipitation Saturday night into Sunday.
